Starbucks Indonesia Together with Jakarta Government and INOTEK Launched KRING Program to Empower Street Coffee Vendors

On November 24, 2025, The Jakarta Provincial Government’s Small and Medium Business Cooperative Trade Industry Office (PPKUKM), in partnership with Yayasan Inovasi Teknologi Indonesia (INOTEK) and PT Sari Coffee Indonesia (Starbucks Indonesia), launched Kelas UMKM: Growing and Upscaling (KRING) Program, an inclusive empowerment program designed to help 100 street coffee vendors strengthen their businesses, adopt digital tools and participate in Jakarta’s formal economy. The KRING Program brings together government, community, and private sector partners to deliver hands-on training and business mentorship for street coffee vendors. While street coffee vendors have long been a hallmark of Jakarta’s street life, many continue to operate informally – often without access to capital, business permits, or digital payment systems.

Officially launched at the Jakarta Creative Hub, KRING will provide participants with practical support on financial management, product presentation, hygiene and sustainable packaging, alongside guidance on Quick Response Code Indonesian Standard (QRIS) payment integration and microloan access. The program will be implemented in three batches and will train 100 coffee vendors through interactive workshops, practical sessions, and one-on-one mentorship. Each will also receive a starter kit comprising a business guidebook, food safety and hygiene materials, and eco-friendly packaging to support safer and more sustainable operations.

“At Starbucks Indonesia, our responsibility to the coffee community goes far beyond our coffeehouses. Through KRING, we are proud to share our expertise in customer service, quality and sustainability to help Jakarta’s street coffee vendors build stronger, more resilient businesses and uplift their livelihoods.”

- Liryawati, COO PT Sari Coffee Indonesia.

The KRING Program complements Starbucks Indonesia’s broader commitment to the national coffee value chain, including upstream investments through its Farmer Support Center in North Sumatra which helps coffee farmers improve crop quality and sustainability practices. Through partnerships with government and innovation partners, Starbucks Indonesia continues to extend its community development efforts beyond stores, supporting entrepreneurship, skills training, and economic inclusion across the coffee value chain.
